I have been on Fluconazole, Acyclovir and Atripla for about 6 months. I noticed problems with a terrible itchy skin rash when I was in the sun when the summer began. I have stayed out of the sun or put sun block on until last Saturday I was at a festival for most of the day and the next day as well as now (2 days later) I have red blochy skin where the sun hit me on my neck, shoulders, arms, back of my hands and knees and it itches like heck. I am about to go nuts it itches so bad. Anyone else have this problem taking the meds I am on? Has anyone found any relief in any way? I am about to tear my skin off. Any suggestions?

I have been on bactrim/azithromycin for 6 weeks. i got thrush and was on fluconazol for 2 weeks, then all the sudden developed the exact same thing your speaking of. I thought it was the fluconazol. My dr said she thought it was the bactrim. I quit taking it and she prescribed me prednisone also. it has cleared up and the itching as stopped. Not sure why she didnt think it was the fluconazol but either way it is stopped for now. sounds like you need to look into this further if it continues and maybe its something else or a combination. she told me I was having a double reaciton....to the med and med with the sun...hope it works out for you man.

Hi Dave, I am on Nevirapine, Lamivudine, and Tenofovir. I find that when I go out in the sun I come back inside with a red blotchy face. It's the meds all right. We have to remember that these meds we are on are an effective but toxic combination that equates to chemotherapy. They are a therapy which is chemical. Chemotherapy. And there are many side-effects. However, there's no need for us to freak out about this particular side-effect. I just deal with it by wearing a broad-brimmed hat when I know I'm going to be out in the sun for a fairly long length of time so as to shield my skin from the sun. Good luck. By the way, I have enjoyed visiting your website. I can tell you there cannot be a single house in the whole of the UK which is so obviously out as yours in Milwaukee! Maybe in our very gay seaside town of Brighton there might be one or two small terraces with a touch of the rainbow flag in the window, but elsewhere . . . forget it! This goes to show that in some parts of the States you guys are far more out and proud than we are over here in the UK. Good on you!

There are lots of meds, not just for HIV,that can make you sensitive to sun.Of course the obvious, sun block and stay in the shade but I know sometimes it's not that easy.Been there done that too many times to count. One thing that works after the damage is done are cool oatmeal baths (not the kind you eat for breakfast)check in the skin care aisle of your drug store.Check with your Dr or pharmacist about taking any meds to help reduce the itch, even over the counter meds can interact with what you are already on. Good luck and I hope you're feeling better soon.I know that itch and burn can make a person crazy.
