Skin Rash

I have been on Atripla since January. I am also on Fluconazole and Acyclovir. In the last month I have developed a skin rash where the sun seems to hit my skin on my back of my neck where my hair line ends and lower arms. I thought it was because of hair coloring when the rash began on my neck. I have not colored my hair in a month and the rash has not gone away and now is on my arms. It looks like a red rash and itches like crazy. I have tried lotions and sunscreen but it does not seem to go away. On my neck I even have noticable and feelable (if that is a word) bumps from the rash. Has anyone else had this problem? Know what it is caused by? Found relief? Should I see my doctor regarding this? Any advice is appreciated. All I want to do is itch. Please respond to this post or email me at djones2659@att.net

Hi Dave I would suggest that you see you Doctor. You have been going through a lot of stress since January (physical as well as emotional) so I would not be surprised if your rash is connected to your medical circumstances. Take Care Mondo

Yes, talk to your Dr. about this. It could be stress related, medications or both. I had a similar reaction after being on meds for about 3 months (Truvada, Lexiva, Norvir). My Dr. suggested that I take a benedryl as needed. That did help but the rash hung around for about a month but then subsided. The benedryl at least helped the itching and seemed to reduce the redness. After about 6 weeks, the rash was completely gone and hasn't come back. Talk to your Dr, he/she will be able to guide you in the right direction.

I had a similar rash on my arms when I was on Atripla. It just wasn't a good med for me overall. My Dr. switched me to an Isentress/Viread/Epsicom cocktail that works wonders for me. I was quickly undetectable and the side effects are nil. It's a twice a day regimen, but that sure as hell beats the problems that I had with Atripla.

Two of the drugs you are taking, Fluconazole and Acyclovir can cause skin rashes. The rash you describe seems to be caused by photosensitivity caused by Acyclovir. If I were you I would either discontinue the use of Acyclovir or avoid sun exposure without using a strong sunscreen. Years ago I had a similiar experience with Bactrim which caused an extremely painful, burning rash which put me in the hospital for a few days.
Good luck. On your SSA disbility denial, I hope you are going to file an appeal with documents from a competent AIDS experience neurologist who can diagnose what I beleive is your HIV Associated Neurocognitive Disorder (HAND). The UCLA Neurology Department and in particular Dr. Elyse Singer, MD are experts in this area. With a little bit of internet search, you should be able to find a competent AIDS experienced neurologist in your area.
I have HAND also known as HIV Associated Dementis (HAD) and Minor Motor Cognitive Disorder (MMCD). The tests for the condition are a thorough physical exam and medical history by an AIDS experienced neurologist, including a spinal tap to determine the extent of the HIV infection of you brain and nervous system, as well as a two day battery of psychoneurological tests to measure your motor and cognitive dysfunction. Dr. Charles HInkin, Ph.D at UCLA's Semele Institute, is an expert in the area of the psychoneurological effects of HIV infection.
Perhaps you could arrange a referral by your doctor to Dr. Singer who could put you onto a doctor in your area she has trained in AIDS neurology.

HIV infection of the central nervous system: clinical features and neuropathogenesis.Boissé L, Gill MJ, Power C.
Division of Neurology, Queen's University, 76 Stuart Street, Kingston, ON K7L 2V7, Canada.
Almost 65 million people worldwide have been infected with HIV since it was first identified in the early 1980s. Neurologic disorders associated with HIV type 1 affect between 40% and 70% of infected individuals. The most significant of these disorders include HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder, which comprises HIV-associated dementia, mild neurocognitive disorder, and asymptomatic neurocognitive impairment. Despite the availability of combination antiretroviral therapy, HIV-related central nervous system disorders continue to represent a substantial personal, economic, and societal burden. This review summarizes the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, and pathogenesis of the primary HIV-associated central nervous system disorders.
Good luck.

I says that you can get rid of it by using one part bleach to six parts water. Put her in the tub and pour this solution all over her because ringworm can spread. Be careful not to get it in her eyes. Do this several times a week if you can for a few weeks. I would dab some on the main spot daily for about a week. If it doesn't clear it up in that amount of time, use it longer, it won't hurt her. Even it it's not ringworm, the bleach solution should kill any type of fungus. This is safe to use on your dog as long as you dilute it with bleach.

Are you stupid or cruel? I cannot tell which, but I believe you should take your mouth breathing, inbred self to another site.

Hang in there bud.
That rash thing can be so many things, reaction to the drugs, the virus itself, the body fighting stuff.
After trying so many things, I found this to work best for ME.
I pour about a half gallon container of Epson Salt in a hot bath. I have used bubble bath, and or just the salt. Soak in their for about a half hour or so. Don't rub yourself dry, just pat it dry, and then wear some very loose clothing for the evening. Seems to go away. This has happened to me twice, and around the winter, when sunlight is sparse in WI.
Also, for the real tough spots, that you can feel the lumps under the skin. I use a cotton swab drenched in hydrogen peroxide, from Walgreens. Dab it on leave it wet.
I also started using the peroxide for mouth wash, keeps the thrush and mouth sores completly away. DON'T SWALLOW THE PEROXIDE.
Hope this helps

Alternative cure for treating rash - Take care of skin. Cleanliness is necessary. Take 1/2 tsp of bishop seeds and drop lemon juice in it and soak for two hours. Then eat these or gulp them with water. Take a homeopathic remedy called as Urtica urens 30, 5 pills 2 times in 12 hours interval. After the above homeopathic remedy wait for 3 days and then take Rhus tox 30, 5 pills daily at bed time for 10 days.
