Have you experienced weight gain on Seroquel?
      #244908 - 03/07/09 11:30 AM

My doctor has prescribed 1/4 mg of Seroquel five times a day to control some of the symptoms of my HIV Associated Dementia. Since I've started taking Seroquel my weight has jumped by 20 pounds.

I am too vain to carry this much weight around and would prefer the symptoms to the cure if necessary to shed these unwanted pounds.

Has anyone else experienced weight gain with Seroquel?

Cheers from Sunny LA

Eight months to gain the weight and even a strict diet of 1500 calories a day didn't shake the pounds off. I also take Respiridone, Depakote and Lyrica which cause weight gain. I think I am going to ask my pscyh if I can cut back to just 150 mg of imipramine for my depression and 200 mg of Lyrica for the peripheral neuropathy until I get my weight under control.

What do you think? As long as I don't become suicidal or have delusions that people are plotting against me as I did befire Seroquel, Respiridone and Depakote, shouldn't I be fine in cutting them out while I shed these pounds? I really would like to be fit at 175 rather than chubby with a muffin top at 202.

It's to be in the mid-70's today her in LA and I would really like to be able to wear jeans and a T without feeling like the Michellin Man.

Good news.

Since cutting out Seroquel, Respiridone and Depakote and reducing Lyrica I am finally losing weight. My psych is worried but watchful but my IDS is overjoyed. Turns out she was worried I would develop diabetes with the extra weight and the Seroquel/Respiridone combination which has been proven to cause diabetes. Once my weight is under control I shall start taking all my meds again. But for now I feel great when I get on the scales each morning and see I've lost a little more weight. (I keep my scale in kilograms so I can monitor the weight loss more closely).
