As long as you speak to your doctor first, build up slowly and allow your body to adjust; exercise certainly wont cause the rate of your disease progression to increase, and conventional wisdom would say that you should try to exercise for at least 30 minutes, five times a week - if you can - and to do it to a rate that leaves you feeling breathless.

Will it slow disease progression? Probably not - at least not dramatically - but it probably will reduce side-effects of both HIV and medications, will improve your processing of sugars, the strength of your bones, your energy levels, sleep patterns, flexibility and appetite as well as circulation, heart and lung function. It will also raise you levels of good (HDL) cholesterol, and lower you triglycerides and bad (LDL) cholesterol. All these are things which are likely to become an issue as the disease progresses and can also become an issue with medications. It will also release feel-good chemicals (endorphins) and help to relieve stress.
  • Don't be tempted to use illicit steroids and/or growth hormone - they can increase disease progression and exacerbate both HIV and non-HIV related conditions.
  • Be sensible, don't over-do it, listen to your body, rest when you are tired, keep it enjoyable and take a break when you are ill or injured.
  • Do try to mix it up, so you get a variety of exercise - i.e. cardiovascular (walking, jogging, cycling, swimming), strength (weights, pilates) and flexibility (stretching).
Physically, it is possible to do to much exercise - or to have a bad technique - and to do yourself harm with that; but that is unrelated to HIV and is just about being generally sensible.

There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.

just make sure you are getting enough rest, and that you eat healthy foods with proteins. what you put into your body is equally important to working out.
