I am not on disability, but I have several friends that are. Yes you can work, but you are only allowed to earn so much money a month. Be very careful in working and receiving disability. HUGS... D

I'm assuming you mean SSDI. Yes you can work, but you need to be careful how much you work. If you work too much you lose your benefits.
Here are their guidelines for working and drawing disability.

Fran,
I have buddies who work for Social Security and here is the skinny. Generally, you cannot do "productive work" in which you earn more than you get in benefits. Just what is productive work is a matter of some debate at SSA. For instance, if you are the manager of an apartment building and get free rent in exchange then the work managing the building is likely not productive work.
You can volunteer all you want since that is clearly not "productive work".
Be careful. I just got my Social Security disability after a whirlwind process that awarded benefits in 22 working days and I know how valuable that determination is to you.
Besides, who wants to work when you can linger over a latte as people scurry to work. I earned my benefits by working sick with HIV/AIDS for years. I deserve a little quiet at the end of my days and so do you.
