I am a Straight Male living with HIV. I was curious why there is no Section for Straight Men w/ HIV. I see one for Women, Teens and Gay Men. I am very curious.

Dear LatinoHeat, first of all let me apologize for the fact that while you've had several hundred views the only replies you've gotten were smartasses --chalk it up to nerves. Probably one of the principal reasons there isn't a Straight Men with HIV thread is that nobody so far has opened one --I applaud you if you're the first to start one. As far as why there are Teen and Women and Gay Men threads, it's because there are "common cause" challenges for these groups that don't get discussed very well under the Living with HIV umbrella. I can't contribute constructively much to a straight or gay woman's questions about HIV and how she deals with, say, children or with biological issues. On the flip side, I think if you read through much of the Living With series, you'll see that sexual preference isn't the guiding light in questions/answers in this community: health and well-being is. I'm sure that your first respondents meant to say, "so how is Straight HIV different from Gay HIV?" and perhaps they'd be right. Your challenges as a straight man are probably what gay folks approach: partners, mates, family including children, your job, your insurance, your doctor and medical attention. I hope you'll stay at thebody and read around, you'll find many stories and useful information. Welcome aboard, ChevyTexas --19 years in diagnosis, health: the best it's ever been (who knew?) at 58. Symptoms after 19 years? A little crankier.

so if its not a hetrosexual disease , what on earth is it then ?
its got f*ck all to do with who you have sex with, men, women or both, its to do with not always wearing a condom and getting unlucky.
we live with the consequences
i feel your pain mate, i am a straight hetro guy , and wondered the same thing myself

Yea essentially cause us straight guys have yet to do it. Either that or someone already did and that was a thread far behind this one that no one bothered to look at
