GAS - Yes, I know - it s a subject some consider too silly to discuss and many of us simply accept as part of the package but man - it is bad. Am on Viramune/Truvada. Have done food allergy tests etc to no avail. Am lactose intolerant but that is it (I do not consume prepared foods or milk products) Got any ideas anybody?

you're right, not something we like to talk or think about but...The worst part is sometimes it's a little more than gas too.My Dr told it was OK to take Immodium for my diarrhea,I'm on Kaletra and Epzicom, and I've found that it helps with the gas too.Talk to your Dr and see what you can safely take with your combo. There are a few OTC meds for gas but don't take anything without checking with the doc first.

Hi You're just talking about stinky smelly farts....right? Not projectile squirts. I think my experience has been that farts while on meds are MORE aromatic ( and more freguent) than if not on meds. But seeing a nutritionist can help greatly. If your doctor or the Aids Service Organization you are affiliated with, can refer you , I would recommend that you try it. There are natural ways to help reduce gas...eating yogurt and replenishing the "good" bacteria in your gut that all the antibiotics kill. (For example.) Or eating more rice. I dont know. There are lots of things. Reducing FRIED foods...thats a biggy. Why not run it by us. What IS your diet like? Good luck.

EXACTLY!!!! It is the meds! Me and my husband did a little experiment to see and we found antibiotics are the biggest culprit (WE ARE NOT SCIENTISTS, THIS WAS JUST AN EXPERIMENT FOR FUN). I love my husband but his could knock out an entire neighborhood!

i found it was a smellier output when my viral load was high. that's one thing i noticed for several years (when i didnt know my status). ya know you can usually stand your own "stank" (mother nature isnt that cruel:) and that was the case for most of my life until the latter years, ergo: superstink = infected. My uneducated guess of course but the director at the clinic i go to said the body sheds all that dead HIV this way among others (pee, sweat, etc). funny when i went on meds and got to undetectable, my ole normal stink returned - the one i could tolerate.
any thoughts on the dead and defunct hiv exiting the host?
Im a 48yr old with the sense of humor level of a 7yr old so potty humor is a mainstay for me, but ironically i found it hard to discuss this in a serious manner! did anyone read that article "shit storm" in positively aware (past issue) they described various situations of HIV'rs on meds out in public, suffering embarassing leakage scenarios. I thought i would find it "moving" no funny but it was gross and unsettling (pun not intended!) anyways sorry for all the crap, i gotta go. ha

Even with an undetectable VL my husband are still pretty foul. I really think it is antibiotics.

I also take Viread. One of the only side effects i have from that drug are gas...not stinky smelly gas...just "air"...sometimes it does cause painful gas cramps. I take Imodium for diarrhea and cramping, and also simethicone (GAS-X) works well and there are no interactions with HIV meds that i know of with that...I also started using fiber caplets to try and help with IBS...It helped with diarrhea and you can get fiber pill now (citrucel or generic equiv) that cause only a little gas...I think the Viread is the biggest culprit tho, I'm not lactose intolerant and i know what foods and such give me gas, and it just seems like i've been on Viread that it is 10x worse, but still controllable...
