Hello everyone. I just wanted to get some feedback on anyone who is taking antidepressants. I have been + for over 3 years and am taking Epzicom and Sustiva. HIV has not taken over my life and I am fairly well adjusted (numbers are great too). As of late I feel like the poster child for the clinically depressed and will be getting help. I just want to know what antidepressant has worked best and why for someone in a similar situation. Thanks in advance for your help.

I dont think I have met anyone who is HIV who has not dabled in anti's.. I was on Paxil my first year and it kept me from the deep end of the pool... They have a purpose and I would not discount them until you have talked with your doctor...
Best,
Eric

Hey friend,
I understand COMPLETELY! I have been poz for over 2 whole years now and while i have great numbers and am on meds (no side effects) i am so awfully depressed too. Im stuck in a job that I hate, i cant afford to pay my bills, i hide this awful secret. I find my only release from the stress is to smoke some marijauana. It helps me feel so much less stressed. I thought this experience was suppose to mean something great... now i question everything even more.. Is there a god? Did I deserve this? Am I going to die soon? Should I plan for a retirement or live each day as if it is my last? At 24 I feel crazy. know you are not alone and i wish.. i wish to god that everyone would accept this, see me with open arms and hug me and not judge me. That place is here. So love you all because I truly understand.. We all truly understand.

I have been on antidepressants for years. when i was first diagnosed i even attempted suicide and i ended up in the psych unit. I can sympathize with you about being depressed. I am currently taking combivir and viramune for a cocktail and then i have to take norvasc and lipitor cause those meds messed with my cholesterol and blood pressure. Then i take welbutrin and celexa and ativan for my depression and anxiety. I have been on the antidepressants for about 6 years now, and they help sometimes, but it is something that you have to work with in yourself too

I was on paxil a few years BEFORE I was infected or knew I was HIV positive. Indeed, it served as a good crutch through a troubling time in my life. I have not been on an antidepressant since my diagnosis. I was always determined though not to stay on the paxil--meditated, broadened my awareness, and took steps to change many aspects of my life. However, I think every person handles depression differently--what's important is that you seek help or take steps to take the course of action that is best for you.

i take xanax four times a day i take lexapro 2 times a day and i take trazadone at night- getting treatment for depression is serious business not just for hiv+ but everyone.
