Hi everyone, I have good reason to be worried that I have HIV, and am waiting the time to be retested (first was negative, which was about one month after I think I could have been infected, but my lymphocytes were down).
Anyway, what is the story for Doctors who are HIV positive? I saw a news article in the newspaper which said that recent patients of a HIV positive doctor are to be tested for the virus.
Does this mean HIV positive Doctors cannot practise? If so, what are the restrictions? I am very worried about this.

that article was probably about some one doing something shady from what i understand a doctor nurse anyone in the medical field is allowed to practice at least in Florida with poz status I think the doc's have more chance of getting infected then infecting others

Now...just why do you think your little fear is reason to post on the Living with forum? You're worried about being infected, more than likely from some non-existant risk, so go post on the Am I Infected Board and Take ole Chrissy with you.
Yes, Doctors, nursers, X-ray techs, phebolomists, Respirtory Therapists, CNAs, etc. People with HIV are in every field of medicine and they don't have to disclose to you. Why? Because you aren't at risk.

Hi Anon_One,
The reason I posted on this board was because (a) I've just joined and didn't notice the other board and (b) anyway, I am almost certain I have it, every new piece of info seems to confirm it at this stage
Thanks for your snot, I really don't need it now!!!
But I appreciate the response, thanks

The only piece of info that CONFIRMS anything is what the test results are. Nothing else indicates the presence or absence of HIV and are useless in your SELF diagonisis.
OK, so now you know that you should never have posted in this forum. People living with HIV don't want to bother wading through Worried well posts in inapproriate forums. Those that are willing will answer in the other forum, but to post here is just bad form.
But thanks every so much for your heartful apology.
"Thanks for your snot, I really don't need it now!!!"
It was touching for ALL of us that actually live with the virus.

You don't seem to understand - my question was relevant to ... "Living with HIV", therefore belongs in this forum, WHETHER OR NOT I HAVE IT
Besides, I know specifically that my blood count at a month after my suspected infection was down, I had symptoms of acute HIV, and the guy I think I got it off has tested HIV +
Anyway, this silly argument is irrelevant and pointless. Does anybody have any real answers? Like are there compulsory HIV tests for foreign healthcare workers moving to the US? Or do some hospitals test for HIV? etc. Thanks!

LOL.
I guess Mr. "I can post where ever the hell I want" should interview his doctor to get the full run down on his doctor's sexual history and then insist on only safe proctology exams until they both test together after ensuring they both are having only safe doctor visits for the three months prior. However, this only works if neither party is sneaking around seeing other doctors.
I'm sure his doctor won't mind humoring his irrational fears.

I would like to point out that if a doctor is HIV positive, its not the patients who are at risk but rather the doctor. Depending on the stage of HIV progression, a doctor who is HIV positive might be exposed to potentially fatal illnesses or infections. In the case of Dr Mazzoni who died many years ago, before the new cocktails came out, he did put his life on the line by continuing to work. He now has a free clinic named after him....The Mazzoni Clinic.

Education is really important here, both of these guys really have no clue as to how HIV is transmitted. As has been said the only way to know you have HIV is to take the test. You guys should google HIV infection/transmission. OvertheHorizon the guy who "infected" you was your doctor? What exactly was he doing to infect you, and yes it is their right to practice medicine, otherwise we would live in a biggoted society. LOL... Okay, I am in tears now..... D

Hey guys - what's up with the grief you're giving this guy? I assumed from his question the concern is if HE is the doctor or medical person and he's not rambling about innate fears - he is asking a legitimate question of how being positive might affect his career - ability to make money - insurance and all the ramifications (LIFE). I don't know the answer to the questions ; however, my suggestion is to check some of the material on the site and possibly put the question forward to the "ask the experts". I hope you aren't positive but if you are - welcome. Lorri
