Well like I said before I was just diagnoised.
Im trying to get an understanding of the whole hiv/aids.
The question that im going to ask might make you mad but its a question that I just sit and think about wondering if someone else is thinking it too. Serious responders please
Do H.I.V. automaticaly eqaul death? (hiv=death) The reason why I ask is because all of the commercials and the Hiv/aids "wrap it up" marketing for young adults. When I see all of this, they would basiclly say wrap it up or die and then it would be a tombstone at the end of the commercial. Also any other type of awarness ads for people telling them to stay safe or "die". I know the meaning but its like ok what about the people who is infected...your basically telling them "oh now your infected so your "Dead". I mean its like Im sitting here, just finding out im HIV pos, trying to deal with it, having alot of friends and family and doctors telling me "Oh your going to live a regular and long life dont worry" Then some ad basically saying Hiv = death!!. I know we can die any day now as being a human bein anything can happen.. its that Im really confused on why people think from jump start that Hiv mean your gonna die and then docs and others think your gonna live regular.
and yes I understand that Hiv lead to aids and cause sickness, belive me I read so much and asked so much and took several classes about it.

Hi Simone,
I'm guessing that's your name. I'm also guessing that I'm a bit older than you (that don't matter too much). I was diagnosed as HIV+ in September 2005 when I was living in Krabi, Thailand where the medical assistance was virtually non-existent (they have some great doctors in Thailand, just not in Krabi). Decided to come back to Australia, landed here 25/12/2005 (that's right = Christmas Day). First thing I did = organise an appointment with my local doctor. Another blood test to confirm the diagnosis, another appointment about 1/2 weeks later = diagnosis confirmed = refer to specialist. But, and this the important thing for you, he tell me that with proper medications less than 15% progress to AIDS, without, more than 50%. AIDS = death, HIV don't. A few weeks ago somebody ask me "What's it like living with HIV at 65yo?" I tell them "Probably about the same as living with it at 35yo = just a matter of how you think about it". For me, it is a minor inconvenience. Sure, you can worry about it, and what bloody good is that going to do? It sure as hell ain't going to help! You need a healthy attitude to battle this. If you worry, that do 2 things: first, it does absolutely no good whatsoever (when did worry ever solve a problem?); second, it makes you feel down, not feel so good, not help in the battle not to get to AIDS. First thing to do = make sure you got a good ID specialist (not sure you have a GOOD one at the moment - he/she should be reassuring you, don't sound like he/she is). Second thing to do = forget that HIV = death, it don't, no bloody way. By the way, when were you diagnosed? Seems, from your post, not too long back and you on medications. Hell, like I said, I was diagnosed nearly 18 months back, I still not on medications. Are you really going to a specialist or just the local doctor?
Want to chat a bit more? = jamharcourt@hotmail.com
Have a look over the posts in this thread (ignore the dickheads like DL1000 and StupidGuy who only try to make trouble). You will find that there are people in worse position than you. Keep the bright side of your personality smiling - you won't beat this thing, but you WILL keep it under control.
Finally, why do 'people think from jump start that Hiv mean your gonna die "? Is simple, because HIV is a homosexual disease. Since Jesus die the Church teach that homosexuality is wrong, wrong, wrong. So, anyone who has THE homosexual disease MUST be punished. Shit, what bullshit. First, if there is a GOD then he/she also create homosexuals and lesbians and every other departure from the "normal". Second, I didn't get it from a male, I got it from 1 of 2 women (maybe both). Third, most frequent way from women to get = male/female activity. Shit, the church (whatever religion) has got a lot to answer for.
Enough for now, not sure how I got onto my disgust for 'the church" on a bulletin board for HIV/AIDS support
Love James

Simone,
Just re-read your post - maybe you not on medication yet. That don't matter, confirmed my initial impression that you just go to local doctor???? No way, you need ID (Infectious Disease) specialist. Most local GPs know bugger all about HIV/AIDS. My local GP (who I been seeing for at least 30 years) IS good but he know nothing about our problem. But, and this what make him good, he do research AND he tell me that he do research. If you just go to local GP, then go to another, don't trust this one to treat you, don't trust this one to refer you to specialist. You got to find one who know that they know nothing about treating this, they will then find you good specialist.
Hang in there. James

Ms Simone,
I agree with James, that you should see an Infectious Disease specialist. Hopefully you have one lined up.
Also, with respect to HIV = Death? No way babe. However, just like any other ailment, you must take care of yourself. Take your meds religiously and never miss a dose, if you can help it.
You have a lot going for you right now. Because being diagnosed in this time is more fortunate for you, because there are more medications available that will help you better.
I was diagnosed in 1994. I have never been diagnosed with AIDS, nor am I near that. My daughter was 10 months old when I found out. She's going to be 14 years old this year.
Just remember to take care of yourself, and make sure you see your specialist on schedule.
