Long Term Non-Progressor has questions...
      #2192 - 04/04/00 07:06 PM

I recently had my three month check-up and all of my blood work done at Parkland Hospital in Dallas,TX where I have been a patient for the last three and a half years. Having had an undetectable viral load for about one year and a CD-4 count that has hovered around 1994-1998 for the entire time, I was shocked and surprised to discover that my latest count was 2757. WOW! I about fainted when my doctor told me this. As you can probably imagine, we both laughed and cried a little and discussed possibilities as to why my counts have been so high. He thinks that I might be one of those rare people that it has been theorized to have a mutant form of the CD-4 cell that is more resistant to the virus.

Has anyone heard of anyone else with counts this high? My doctor says that he can't find anyone on record in any medical journal with anywhere near my counts. I'm really wondering if I am just put together wierd, or what?

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,
By the number of responses it seems that nobody so far has heard of another person with counts like yours. I definately haven't. Your body must be put together fabulously weird to be as strong as that! I can't give you any more possibilities as to why this happened than your doctor but whatever caused this sounds absolutely wonderful. I am so happy for you and would be extremely interested if you find anything else out about it.

Ken:

I certainly don't want to burst your bubble, but I've read that co-infection with HTLV-I can cause artificially high CD4 counts. You might want to ask your doctor about it.
