Question about flying with Fuzeon and needles
      #203387 - 08/13/06 06:07 PM

I would like to hear about peoples experiences with flying with Fuzeon viles and needles. With the events of last week I am wondering if any of those experiences will get worse. I am planning a trip in the Fall and would like to be prepared properly. Thanks
Cheers

You know who is the expert on this...ScotCharles....so why dont you PM him and see what he says. My take on it is this: if its a medical requirement for you, its ok. You just need PROPER documentation of its possession ( prescriptions etc)
and a letter from your doctor.Just to be sure. I dont think you will have any problems.
A friend of mine just got back from Montreal with Fuzeon equipment...he had no problems.

The problem with Fuzeon and the prescriptions, is that the pharmacist usually puts the prescription label on the box that it comes in. Each month, you get a kit... 2 boxes of Fuzeon, 2 boxes of water, 2 boxes of needles, alcohol swabs, bandages and the sharps container. Something like that is awfully bulky to be carrying around on the passenger portion of the airplane, let alone trying to make sure it gets in the luggage compartment, then hope that the airlines don't lose your medications.

I wondered about that myself when they mentioned the changes on flights. Have you asked your doctor what you can do or if they can write a letter for you stating that you are required to take this medication? Think the airlines would accept that?

Sheesh... now you have to give airlines your medical information.

Thanks Izpoz and Bear60. Izpoz brings up points about the perscription and its availablility to show. When i started getting the box "O" goodies at first they included sharps containers but do not any longer and i never got bandages. They have had several different types of needles, from the self retracting ones, now down to the basic fold over needle guard.

What I have done to make car travel easier was to purchase acouple of shower bags for one box of fuzeon and one box of water and about 15 of each type needle. there is a side pocket to hold swabs and I was cutting the perscription lable off of the main box and slipped it into thhe pocket as well. I keep another bag just like it at the office so i dont have to carry it to and from work.

When i was car travfeling and wsasnt sure how long ii was staying so i took the whole shabang but i had a handy bag to take inside the house and could leave the rest in the car till i could do a full unpack.i just wasnt sure about flying with it that way of course the bulk of it would be in checked baggage but i would think you would want at least some doses in case you go one way and the baggage goes another.

Because ii have a great military pharm i could get them to print out a lable for the smaller boxes. Just thoughts to start a discussion.
Cheers

You could always ask the dispensing pharmacy to provide you with sharps containers and bandages if you need them. I never get bandages, since I don't bleed much... However, they never listen when I tell them I don't need the alcohol swabs... good heavens, I think I have enough to stock a doctor's office!!

I liked the self retracting needles, and was disappointed when they moved to the fold over needles.

For me, when I traveled, over night stays, I would bring enough for about 3 days, just in case I get held over or something and put all my paraphenalia (sp?) in a make up bag. For longer stays, I'd just put all my stuff into my suitcase. However, I haven't flown with it yet.

Cutting off the label to have with you during travel is a good idea.
