Does anyone know
      #201132 - 07/24/06 11:40 AM

When I came out of the hospital from my PCP and diagnosis of AIDS, I had applied for Social Security disability. I was pretty sure I would not get it but was hoping even for the medicaid part of it. While I was on vacation I received a letter from SS that they gave me a temporary pin number and when I receive my benefits I can change it to a permenant one but I need the amount I will be receiving. Anyway, I also received a letter to have a phone interview on Thursday.
Does this mean I am a step closer to receiving it or is this all just a formality? I am so confused.

i would beleive the step you are taking is getting you closer,as for the pin number im nos so sure as they use pin numbers to track progress through the ssa site, call the 800 number and inquire,or call your lawyer if you have one, good luck with it though im still waiting since 2004 march, but im getting a video conference from ny to pa,for the alj, hopefully it works 2 a half years wait is enough.if i win im moving south to florida,im sick of shoveling snow, and the cold, hope this helps, take care

Go figure I received a call today. I have an appt on Thursday over the phone because I have two minor children and I have an appt on Monday for SSI, which is temporary. She explained both were approved and I will find out Thursday and Monday for how much. I can not beleive it. It is only one year. I feel for you waiting for more then two. Maybe this will be my husbands motive to move. He was so worried about my meds and health coverage.

Sounds like things are going in the right direction :)

For my husband, I think he was approved within months, and I mean single digit months... We had a good doc then, who fought tooth and nail for us with the government, right down to the insurance companies.

Good luck Fran!!

AH... damn, hun, you sure you can't follow up and light some fires??

Thanks. Yeah they said I was not eligable for at least 5 calander months so I am eligable starting in Jan of this year. The only reason they have not paid it yet is because I was also approved for SSI which is temporary but for those 5 months my SSD may change.
Thank you though. I guess I was approved from the PCP and actual AIDS diagnosis. I thought they were not giving it anymore to HIV+ folks. I am confused but will not argue.

She is doing well. She was transferred to a rehab to help her get strong now. She is not very haoppy but we give her tough love. She is 73 now and you would have never known it with the way she acted and was with the kids and stuff. I have a feeling this is going to make her old really quick.

I had a serious bout of PCP in '04, in hospital for a week and on leave for a month. I have been told I cannot go out on disability. Just curious what is your CD4 and viral load, do you have any other complicating conditions, e.g. HEPC, depression, lymphoma, etc?

Tell all, many of us would like a better shot at disability retirement. I have a 100% replacement disability retirement and with my partner of 26 years with less than five years to live, I would like to be able to travel more and be with him as much as possible.

Cheers,

My numbers are now up to cd4 500 and vl undetectable. I am not sure how I did it. I do have bouts of dizziness and fatigue. I am not sure what made them give it to me.

I don't have any plans of quitting work until I have to. My daughter needs to see me be productive... I want her to grow up productive. Besides, I would go stir crazy sitting at home, LOL. Not to mention that I want my daughter to have a nice place to live since I'm sole money maker...

Ah well... When I win the lottery, then I will quit working!!

Wow, do SSA officials in New Jersey accept bribes?

I'm with IZPoz, I would like to work as long as I can, but with my partner weakening with COPD, I have to look to the future and the limited quality time I may have with him.

Anyhoo, cheers on your pending award.

That's great - good for you. I am going to have to do something if my arm doesn't heal pretty soon. It's been 6 weeks - still pain, still swelling, still can't move my fingers much. Short-term disability (mandatory benefit in NY) for now - I get a whole $160 a week - but I may have permanent problems. Lawsuit pending - no idea if that will amount to anything, but the lawyer took the case on a contingency basis, so I would think that's a good sign.
