Recently my boyfriend went in for blood work as he was born with a heart murmer and had been having more heart palpitations than usual. The doctor did blood work and called him back in for another appointment- during this appointment the doctor told him that he found some abnormalties in the blood and thinks an HIV test should be taken.
I'm confused. I thought that standard blood tests don't show any of that stuff? Someone explain!!

if HIV progresses untreated long enough it WILL make a mess you normal blood work, it cant be detected or diagnosed with a normal bloodwork, but if left untreated and it progressively worsens, it will affect the normal bloodwork....doc probably sees abnormal levels of WBC's, and/or platelets, etc. an HIV test is the only way to diagnose and rule out or rule in , HIV.
