First Test Results Today
      #193643 - 05/30/06 05:43 PM

Got my first CD-4 and viral load counts today...CD-4 is 1280, Viral load is 498,000. What does this mean? Have an appointment for the 15th to meet my new Dr. But in the meantime, should I be concerned about the VL?

Seems a bit high dude, clinical AIDS is just a bit higher than that. Are you on meds, and if not why is doctor delaying the onset of treatment? Your immune system seems OK, but HIV is a mean SOB and your doctor should get you on meds ASAP.

Good luck.

Nord, I am just catching up... If your cd4 is at 1280 you have quite a bit of time before meds are required. If this is your first test, you have at least 2 more sets of test before they can even establish a base line for your virus. Did they provide your cd4 / cd8 percentage? If not, call them and ask for it. These 3 numbers are how ID docs begin consideration for further treatment. If you vl continues at this trend which could also be a BLIP your cd4's will continue to decline in your trending. I am sorry I have not read your previous posts as yet. Be calm and relax. Stress is the worst thing you can do to yourself related to maintining good numbers. However this is done is something we can all talk to you about......

Love

After 3 days of trying I finally spoke to my GP this morning. The cd4 / cd8 percentage is 0.5 or 50%. He said normal is >70%. Also said CD4 percentage of total lymphocites (?) is 27%. I asked him what all of this meant. He basically said that this shows the virus is starting to affect the immune system. I asked if I should see the HIV specialist ASAP and he said to try and see him today or tomorrow. (Of course, this doctor believes in starting meds immediately upon diagnosis). He called the specialists office to tell them 2 weeks for an appointment was too long. The specialist is on vacation this week, but my appointment was moved up to Tuesday the 6th. Now I wait. How do you control the mood swings and the remorse (what the hell have I gotten myself into?)? One moment I'm totally despondent, the next moment I'm hopeful. Last night when I came home from work, my partner burst into tears upon seeing me. Said he's okay, but that the reality of this shit is finally settling in. He's been great but I need him to remain strong for me. I couldn't go through this alone. Thanks all for your input and support. Stay tuned.
