What is this I hear of young men contacting other gay men for crystal meth and sex on the internet where protection isnt even discussed or used. These kids are reporting multiple partners and there is a very high incidence of HIV. This is going on today 2006.

It is because they feel that HIV is now a serious condition instead of something that will kill them in time. There have been many studies and surveys of young gay men, most think that they can live with being HIV+ now because the meds are keeping people alive for so long. So there response is they do drugs, drink, and have unprotected sex with out concern of infection, which is why the Chlamydia numbers are so high too in the community.

Unfortunately it's not just gay men. The trend is developing in the straight community as well.
Recent studies have shown that straight men (and women) who take crystal meth. are far more likely to engage in unprotected sex (same is true for gay men). Apparently the drug induces a blend of euphoria and at the same time erodes people's natural inhibitions....a lethal combination when it comes to employing safe sexual practices.
