brother severely depressed and ill
      #18490 - 06/18/01 02:16 AM

I just found this site and really need to ask some questions and need support to help my brother. He has had HIV AIDS for 14 years and had been hospitalized 3 times in the past month. He stays in bed l2 to l4 hours a day and is severely depressed. He is very weak and falls and cannot get up. They found a blood clot in his leg and one in his lung. He has no appetite and wonders if he is dying. I don't know what to tell him and my heart aches for him. Can anyone tell me what is going on. Is he dying. He is on his 4th antidepressant (Celexa) but nothing seems to help.He has no appetite and is 6"1" and weighs only l50lbs.

You must call an AIDS organization like Project Inform at 1-800-822-7422 and tell them what drugs your brother has taken and what are his options for the future. They are in San Francisco. If he has no appetite there are drugs he can take!! Like Marinol! He should get help! There are also experimental drugs--like T-20. Maybe he can take that! Does he have a casemanager in any AIDS organization that you can contact?? Do you know the largest AIDS organization in your area???? If not, call the National AIDS Hotline: 800-342-2437 (24 hours a day, daily) and they can help you find some resources. You must call your local AIDS organization and see if there is someone who can help you.Maybe they have referrals to good HIV specialists. Maybe they have buddy's for your brother who can come and visit. Keep music on that he likes! Get some of his friends to visit. He's NOT alone. You just have to get some resources over to your house!

There are effective, harmless, alternative products that are all natural that your brother can be using. His HIV count will drop by 50% in two weeks, his appetite will naturally return within about 3-4 weeks. Just look at this site where there is tons of medical, clinical and testimonials. go to: http://www.profittoday.net/healthwithwealth.html

I also have a brother like you. He is 6'3" and 140lbs.
He is depressed and weak. I live too far away to see him and I am very sad about his condition.

As a result I started a support group for people like you and me.

TEARS: Support Group (in Los Angeles)

We are a support group for anyone, except for those infected with AIDS.

Attached you will find our flyer and our web site.

For more information go to our web site at www.members.tripod.com/hopestears/index.htm
Our e-mail is vivalapoem@yahoo.com

Our mission: See below.
We meet twice a week Mondays @ 6pm and Thursdays @ 7pm.

Until the last breath has been taken, we are committed to giving each other hope and support. But also, as the sick become weaker we are allowing ourselves to talk about death without shame or giving up hope. Hope is life. As long as our sick lovers, family and friends are alive, we want them to live it with all the strength of their being.

TEARS is created as a space to talk with people affected by someone sick with AIDS that they love. Someone who is close to death and has begun to think about outcomes other than recovery, or the hopes of being well enough to live a life less interrupted by constant illness. It is very difficult to talk about death and giving up. We are not giving up by talking about our fears, frustrations, concerns and sadness, we are making ourselves stronger.

TEARS Support Group will use spirituality, information, smiles and laughter to overcome difficult times, and offer a space of non-judgment when expressing feelings concerning the pain experienced by a loved one.

We hope to allow each person to be heard and comforted at each meeting. As well, we hope to allow each member a chance to heal, grow and identify with other members’ experience.

At each meeting there will be a co-facilitator with a MS in Counseling who will offer additional support and give guidance to aid its members and the groups direction. The group is not for individual counseling but for community support.

Meeting outline:
Meetings are approximately two hours long.

Each meeting begins with member introductions.
We will make announcements, pass out or gather information.
We will choose a topic or discuss a scheduled *topic.
We will have a half hour to allow anyone who needs extra help to speak.
We will close with a spiritual good thought for strength.
We will occasionally have guest speakers.
*Topics are given by members or by the facilitator.

Please post our flyer or list us as a support group at your facility.

Thank you and Good luck.

message of hope and a prayer for you both tell him not to
give up hope and don't let it win he's stronger than he thinks and has a lot of living to do yet
