Hairy Leukoplakia

I was wondering if anyone out there has or has had hairy leukoplakia on their tongue? If so, how long did it take from when you first noticed it as a very small white to to being all the way down the side of your tongue.
Secondly, how was it diagnosed. Clinicly or by biopsy.
The reason that I ask is because I have a lesion that looks a lot like that on the side of my tongue that the doctors and oral surgeons do not reccognize. That is scary. They dont know either way. It has been comming in for about two years now. I have read that hairy leukoplakia takes a month or two but I would like to hear from a real life person.
My last t cell count was 390.
