a serious question...
      #176350 - 02/21/06 04:43 PM

without being judgemental and giving me the usual lectures- i have been having certain issues with finding out that i am poz. 2/23/06 will be 6 months since i'm diagnosed, and 3/3/06 will be 5 months since i've started meds (sustiva & truvada). #'s started (8/23/05) CD4280 & VL86,000. right now i'm undetectable CD4 651 38%. i couldn't be happier with my #'s and feel that i have adjusted fairly well to the meds. the usual symptoms the 1st 2 weeks. only thing that's stuck around is the awful stomach ache in the morning & with certain foods. i do smoke cigarettes (about 7-8 a day) don't drink & eat pretty decent. no vegans here, enough fruits & veggies to sustain me (but not a rabbit) & walk about 2 hours a day. i really want to quit smoking because it's just getting really yucky. i don't like it anymore, i just don't know how to. i can't seem to get my brain in that place. but my real issue is with... without incriminating myself, a certain "home grown" remedy. i seem to have this penny/metallic taste in my mouth (not if i'm chewing gum or after brushing my teeth) but i can't eat if i don't use this "remedy" i also really don't have an appetite.... at all. since 8/2005 i have lost 20 lbs. i'm @ 117-118lbs... from 138-140 THAT'S CRAZY!! people comment on it continuosly & i have become extremly concious of it. but i just cant eat. but i have to constantly eat (please please please don't get mad that i'm whining about being too skinny!! i used to weigh 200lbs. so i know how this sounds!!) but if i remedy the situation, i can eat and i don't feel that sick queasy feeling. now i don't sit around just doin it to do it. but it seems to also be helping with nausea, headaches (late day migrain.. arg.) and anxiety. seeing how this "copay" is less than anything the ID would prescribe, it's probaly way less harmful to my liver than anything that would be prescribed... how concerned should i be? no, i'm ot out partying & whoopin' it up. i'm way past the highschool phase (i'm 34, adult grown responsibl-ish woman, people!) i know this is something that is prescribable in certain states for certain illnesses/diseases.

Gosh I have not smoked POT in 20 years! Does it help? Oops, sorry sorta blew it didnt I? I get all funny an stupid when I use to smoke. Well I am sure you have a good relationship with your ID doctor. He certainly has told you about your dietary needs. Be sure you are up front with him on your POT smoking as well as stomach difficulties. If you dont tell him/her they cant help you out... Right...

Im going to go out and score a dime bag now...

Love and Hope your tummy feels better!

I am not sure how I would answer that. I myself have not needed to do that because my problem with eating is just the opposite since coming out of the hospital. I am in the opinion though that if you are not becoming stupid with this then what does it hurt. I know of people(my husband, shhhhhh) that still does this once in a while and as it seems to calm him down and help him sleep it is not hurting him. I myself tried it for the first time after not doing it for about 12 years about 1 year ago and could not handle it. I say what ever won't hurt you makes you stronger. Hell, Go for it and enjoy it!

I was not sure about the HOME REMEDY thing until I read Erics post! lol He sure went right to the point.
My former partner did in fact have a prescription for marijuana in pill form which he got at the pharmacy. And he did use that when he needed to gain weight but had no appetite. As for the home remedy......I guess its an individual thing like was said....if it works its ok. In San Francisco they were dispensing POT to AIDS patients. Dont know if they still can do that. The laws are so crazy state to state.

i guess my real concern is my lungs & how it may interact with the meds.... but i guess if i'm wasting away to nothing my lungs are the least of my worries. i've been smoking for years & years now. initially before cuz it was fun, then to help with anxiety... now it helps with the HIV symptoms etc... i imagine if it was detremental (like drinking & other drugs) my ID would have told me to STOP! and on a serious note, i have found the secret to non traumatic bathrooming in the morning!! OATMEAL!! i ate some oatmeal before i went to bed last night... and, i felt like a normal person with a normal "movement" YEA ME! sorry people, that was too much info this early, wasn't it?

Oatmeal new
      #176508 - 02/22/06 10:23 AM

Hey...thats a real good discovery. My partner, who has lipodystrophy, and is on a low cholesterol diet( no pasta no potatos, no bread no rice no pizza etc), eats popcorn almost every evening for the same reasons. Mind you its not just any popcorn but real natural stuff ( no trans fat there). He also eats oatmeal!

Marijuana! Wow, I haven't smoked pot since I lived in San Francisco. There was this place that was opened to members only. You became a member if your doctor in their round about way diagnosed you as either suffering from wasting or depression and wrote a note "to Whom It May Concern". Once in it was like an Amsterdam Brown Bar with people smoking pot on three floors and on one floor there was a counter where you could buy weed of various qualities. One of the best was Medocino gold which was grown by the some of the best plantsmen in the world up in Northern California. I don't know if this is still the case, but at night in Medocino when the tourists left you could smell pot smoke all over town particularly near the church with the Father Time and the Maiden on the steeple. It also wasn't uncommon to see fat plastic bags changing hands.

Anyhoo, back in San Francisco, that place whose name I can't remember also sold Pot brownies. I think the place still exists but in a different location on 17th up from Castro near the AIDS hospice on the corner. I think it is or perhaps was now, called CHAMPS which was an acrononymn for something.

Your question was can pot hurt you? Anything in excess is usually bad, even eating too many carrots will damage your liver and turn you orange. I say, go for it I'd give you my address to send some seeds, but my luck a DEA agent would get both us for using the mails to traffic in drugs.

Go for it, girl!

LOL!! anything else that someone has discovered to slow the morning production to a managable event? cement, tar, gum? anything?
