Four week anniversary...
      #173760 - 02/06/06 05:33 PM

Four weeks ago today I got the news that I was HIV positive. Right now that seems almost like forever ago. I logged onto these boards that night when I was having a bit of a panic attack and have found some of the sweetest people on earth. Thanks to all of you for helping me make it through these last four weeks. I'm looking forward to sharing much more with you.

So far I have no numbers or anything. Tomorrow I get to stop by and get a copy of my first labs. (no consultation or anything... so I'll kind of be on my own) I kind of wanted some handholding and some explanation of what I was facing. I haven 't had that yet. So today, I changed HIV specialists. I'll be going through the Infectious Disease unit at Washington University (one of the top 20 HIV units in the nation). I feel so much better and was very glad I could get in. The lady I talked to was so patient and kind and willing to take all the time I needed. She is already sending me information and setting up an information session with one of their nurse practitioners. I want to particularly thank Eric for his encouragement to make sure I was comfortable with who I was using.

Anyway, another night of waiting before I know at least some of where I"m at. Thanks to all of you for your support and I'll post what I find out sometime later tomorrow evening.

David

I snuck out of my room just for a second. She forgot to lock the window! The rain gutter is an easy climb up to the top floor where David is...

David I am so proud of you for making such big decisions on your health care. You are getting your Elmo's in a row and I am very very proud you are making this happen. WU is very highly regarded and I know they will be on the leading edge of treatment for ya.. Hand holding is key as we all get to learn about how to live with this. I think we are all going to benefit from your wisdom and strength as you move on to the next waiting period... Learn how to wait and be PATIENT. You got so much accomplished in such a short period of time...

You should sleep well in knowing you are being taken good care of..

Love

Hey I just want you to know that when I found out, I was so scared and unsure of what anything meant, I had no idea boards like these were even out here,(I was diagnosed Feb.of 1997) So the fact that your here is good, and I know I will help you understand anything I can, And I am very glad to read that you are now seeing a specialist, that should really put your mind at ease at least a little. Take care...

Thanks Donna! I've kind of been left on my own to find any support in all of this. So I was so lucky that I just happened to do a search that first night and found these boards. They are so much better than some of the others.

I have a confidence that I've done the right thing in terms of my choice for a treatment venue. I'm going to take care of myself and do what the doctor says.

I can understand being scared. I was terrified that first night. I had never really had a panic attack before. It was like I didn't know what to do and was just pacing through the house wanting to scream. Luckily it subsided in about 5 minutes. Since then I've been doing okay with some ups and downs.

Hi Blikser / david.

How are you doing????
Nervous???

May be I'm different.
But when I go for the tests and the results,
I do so, alone.
.........
That is what I prefer.
I will share the news later with 2 trust worthy friends,
when I am ready to do so.

Any way.
best wishes for the results.
Greetings.
Pieter.
