Hello to all. I have been poz 17 years, on meds for 12 months and, after some adjustments, doing great - undetectable VL and 500 Ts. Love that. The good professor has now suggested I go on an IL-2 trial starting in Australia. This sounds great - well the outcome does anyway - but I would love to hear from anyone who has done a IL-2 trial/is doing it and how they are going. The prof thinks it is a good idea, my doc says my health is so good and holding so well that there is no rush. Any advice would be gratefully received.
With thanks to all. Gus

Do what your doctor tells you. Don't think for yourself and remember the doctor is god and science is a religion. This approach has worked for many past "aids" patients who have since left this plane.

Hi Gus, The anonymous responder about science is a God, etc., sounds very bitter. I haven't had any personal experience with IL-2 but have talked to two people who have taken it--one a 16 year old boy and one a 35+ year old woman. They both felt bad--flu-like symptoms during the week they had the shots & then fine after. Both had excellent responses in their CD4 count--the woman's went to 1500. I talked to both of them about three years ago, though, so the regimen might have changed a little since then. (They were in clinical trials at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland). Living with HIV as long as you have, you've certainly learned a great deal about what you & your body will put up with. My experience comes from my daughter, also a long-term survivor--HIV+ 17 years now & doing quite well. She never did any herbals or vitamins much, mainly anti-viral medications when they finally became available. A word of advice from one of her doctors a long time ago(in my own words)--if something is working for you & you can live with your schedule of meds, stick with it (if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it).
I'm going to print out your reply to "i need advice" & give it to my daughter--we need to get the book you recommended. Best of luck to you whatever you decide to do.

Thanks Chris. Wow - T cells of 1500. Now I am envious and that is impressive! Mine are currently sitting at about 500 - they were 180 last September - and I am doing well on what is working for me. Am fascinated about the Interleukin though and do plan to read as much as I can. Thanks for all your help and good luck to your daughter.
Cheers, Gus

Hi again Gus. Do you get the publication PERSPECTIVE from Project Inform? I get their hard copy. The one that arrived today had an article on IL-2 studies & results. It's available online at www.projectinform.org. When you get to that website, in the upper left hand-side is a heading of Treatment Information; when you click on that, you can select PERSPECTIVE. The issue with the IL-2 article is #32 & the article is called "Spotlight on Interleukin-2 (IL-2, Proleukin). It describes a number of studies; most resulted in increased CD4 counts. The sentence that caught my eye was the one which mentioned that after a sustained increase in CD4 counts, to maintain that increased count, "usually requires only yearly therapy in people who start IL-2 when CD4+ cell counts are high (above 300)."!!!

Yet another denialist. Thats right, don't take your meds as they are part of global plan to thin out the populace. Don't you guys run out of possible reasons as to why your like keep dying off?

My doctor prescribed IL-2, but Coventry Insurance refused to pay, so I took $4000 borrowed dollars and used it. I took the minimum dosage (4.5 units?) and had few side effects. My CD4 cells did rise about 200, less than I had hoped. I will do it every year, if it seems right to me.
