Your screen name really intrigues me. Is it actually possible to be diagnosed with AIDS and with the right treatment(I am just assuming) be back to HIV again? Did I read your name wrong? Also what defines AIDS, is it the cd4's, vl, whit blood cells?
And if that is the case (you had hiv-aids-hiv) what is your story. sorry for all the questions I'm just very interested.

well, as far as the clinical politicians are concerned, they will tell ya once diagnosed with aids, you are always labeled aids. however , theyve went from using "full blown aids" terminology to "advanced hiv". Seeings how in all honesty, its just a numbers game, i took this name. I never was tested and got the diagnosis of hiv+....i was already in the aids stages when i was tested and it was detected. now by the numbers, im out of the aids classification, however to the politicians, im always aids. Confused yet?...I simply took the name cuz it fits, My strat point in all this was "aids" and with the meds and my doctors, and the footwork i do for God, i bounce into the HIV status....hence the name AIDS2HIV...I asked my specialist one day, about hearing him tell an HIV+ person he would live the same length of time i would, me having aids already* he said to me, "you are treated with the same drugs, therefore the same reactions will occur, this isnt the eighties" i laughed and agreed, much hype about this, much politics as well, ya can read more about me by simply clicking on my name and reading my posts, ive posted quite abit about my disease living with me.....I dont live with the disease, it doesnt dictate my life....it lives with me. God Bless, if ya would like to talk more feel free to message me. Take care & God Bless

Wow man that's great. Does that happen often or were you a rare lucky case? You seem like you have been through a lot man. That makes a stressed WW like myself feel a little better. I have not tested yet, I can not get the courage. But, if I do test + reading stories like yours make it that much better, ya know. Thanks for taking the time to respond and I hope one day its AIDS2HIV2CURED haha. Good luck man, stay well ;)

I too was diagnosed when I was already in the advanced AIDS stages. I spent a month in the hospital with PCP and had a t-cell count of 52. Now only 6 months later my t-cells are up to 349 and undetectable. This is not a rare occurance by all means. There are many people who can get where we were and bounce back with medication. There are also people who can not respond to the medication as well. I do not want to worry you. This disease is not like it was 5 or even 10 years ago. It has been studied and has progressed so much in the last 10 years. Every year they are coming out with new meds. I am very confident I will be around to see my 11 and 8 year old have children of there own. As for the defenition of AIDS, it is someone with a t-cell count of less then 200 and an AIDS defying oppertunistic infection.(PCP, CMV, etc.......)

HI,
this is a question that arises alot. these days it is usually just a medical terminology that would diagnose one with AIDS. there are certain things that could do that (cd4 dropping below 200, or an OI), but yes like aids2hiv said in medical terms....once a person has been diagnosed with aids (even when tcells drop to 198) that person is always concidered to have aids.....most people I've seen only be under 200 at ONE point in their treatment....but have tcells over 500 or more...and still, when needing a diagnosis letter....we would have to write "diagnosed with aids". It does seem like a label, but in medical terms, its considered if your immune system has dropped that low, its so in medical terms (or even statistic purposes) it is known that your immune system has even at one point been that weak. but...no matter what your tcells show...even an individual with aids is simply "hiv positive". one with hiv/or aids could say that, and it would never be a lie. but anonymous...I know being tested is scary...(I have been there)....but with all the worrying you do...really, the only scary part---is the NOT knowing. we're all here praying for you.
much love and prayers, debbie

Im no rare or lucky case by far...unless of course ya say before i was tested i "rarely" cared much about my personal health, and that im "lucky" to be alive. But otherwise, im just a man who's living my life with aids...God Bless.

Hi, I don't know if this helps. But when my doctor told me 3 years ago that I had AIDS. I was in shock, cuz my numbers (cd4 and viral load) didn't seem to reflect (close) it. Then he told me about the CD4%. Yes, it is true, anything below 200 is governmentally considered "AIDS" but he said the true indicator is the CD4%...it must be (i believe) above 14%. Mine was 11%, therefore I was considered to have "Aids". When I talked to my counselor and doctor about it. I said "I'm not going to worry, I will bring my numbers back up to HIV level again". They said "that's great...but you will always be considered as AIDS even if no OI's and great numbers" "They explalined it something like this...Once your numbers get so low (more %) and your are diagnosed with Aids it means your immune system has been significantly damaged. And there is a good possibility your immune system will never bounce back on its own (only meds). This is only what my doctor told me..3 YEARS ago..with my gaps of memory. So, keep in mind these figures may not be totally exact.
