I know the thought of having HIV or knowing you are HIV+ can cause depresstion. I am just wondering if HIV itself causes depression. For example, if a person was infected and had no idea that they are positive, could s/he still have HIV related depression?

get tested if you are depressed at the fact that you may be infected. as far as not knowing and hiv causing depression, that is a good question. i think there is probably a more deeper reason for the depression, but i am not an expert. i would just be tested to ease your mind.

I don't know if HIV can cause depression...but I do know that millioins of americans (not sure where you're from) suffer from depression..it is a chemical imbalance in the body that requires medication to b e treated....Please, if you are feeling down, ask a professional to evaluate you...but there are websites that will give you a checklist to evaluate you.

I don't think HIV 'causes' depression, it is a side effect. Meaning if you know your status and constantly think about it, you will get depressed! On the other hand there are good medications to treat it and you can be YOU again!

I qualify from time to time thats for sure.. Manage with Paxil and Clonozapam.. Super mild but makes a difference..

speaking from personal experience not testing put me into a depression, so like someone told me go in and get tested with shaking knees. keep you in my prayers. love and peace

yes! hiv is clinically shown to cause hiv. not just from dewelling on the subject. it attacks the brain and chemical receptors and cause depression by lowering hormones and other chemicals.
