Hello all, I have an id doc and are being monitored every 3 months. I have had hiv for almost two years but seem to be a fast progressor, I have gone from 565 cd4 down to 300 cd4 in the last two years. My viral load has gone from 1500 to now last test of 60K. However, my doctor said I am still stable and keep monitoring. I am due for new test in two weeks. The problem is I am traveling and out of state now for the last two weeks. While I have been away, I have had fevers that keep coming and going. Since, Saturday and it is almost Friday, (seven days). I have a little bit of a red throat. I was hospitalized for two days for the fevers, and dehydration. I did not tell the hospital my condition. I was on business and wanted to wait until I was home. Anyway, the hospital took blood work and chest ex ray and all came back fine. they actually did not even pick up that I had hiv. I am not sure why. But anyways, could this be dangerous? I am really scared or could I just have the flu? Could my cd4 drop from 300 to 200 in three months if I have been dropping quickly? What could this be a sign of? Thank you.

call your dr. you should have told the hospital, because of your privacy rights they would not have done a hiv test, but if they knew your condition they may have been more aggressive in their research, don't wait two weeks alot can happen, I am just a big scaredy cat, so I tell everything that does not seem right to me

Hi....
When are you due to go home? It would be a good idea to even put a call into your id doc while you are away and let him know whats going on. Its not surprizing that they wouldn't have picked up that you have hiv if you didn't tell them. it very well could be the flu....but to be hospitalized for TWO days just for dehydration seems a bit much. course they did all the neccessary stat labs to pick up anything that would be serious, so I wouldnt be too concerned. but because your immune sytsem is compromised it may be harder to fight off the flu. but you should really touch base with your ID doctor and let him know whats going on.
You will be ok until you return....but what you should try to do prior to going back home is call the hospital to get a copy of your discharge summary from your hospital stay so you can give it to your doctor so he knows what has been run already, and what they know it "isn't".
please let us know how it goes.
love and prayers, debbie
