I was on a fundraising cruise for the Gay Games and I saw one crew member in the catering/food departmen who was wearing rubber gloves as she picked up peoples glasses, plates, etc. I carefully looked to see if any other cater/food people who were picking up had gloves on. They didn't.

Reactions to my noticing this by others were "she's ignorant' or "she had a skin condition"

I may check with the ships captain to find out.

in her defense....I also do catering on the side, and when handling food it is mandatory to wear gloves, and some people some people would rather not pick up other peoples dirty eaten food. they all have to bus tables, but i wouldn't be uncomfortable and easily handle dirty plates with half eaten food on it.

i know I am defending her a bit, but in the catering business, i think its different.

Sometimes I see flight attendants wear gloves when they come around to pick up trash. Don't take it personally.

Sometimes the people collecting tolls will wear gloves and I start feeling defensive toward them! But it probably is not related to HIV..but I always consider the idea that they think they are better than me (regardless of anyone's HIV status)
