Hey everyone I have a question about a new regiment that I have been on for a month and a half now and was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing the same effects from this medication ? I’m hoping it’s the side effects of the medicines and that my partner isn’t right? he says that it’s my age catching up with me..haha
I’m now taking Kaletra and Sustiva and been doing pretty good on it but I have notice over the last few weeks that my concentration has not been there for instance I love to write and do it often and I also have a few pen pals I keep in touch with but when I go to proof read what I have wrote none of it makes sense I’ve left out sentences/words. I jump from one thought to another with in the same paragraph and have to scratch the whole letter and start over and also I misplace things around the house or forget what I was about to do which is not a normal trait for me. I was wondering if anyone else that is on either of those medicines have experience the same thing ? I will talk to my Doctor about this I normally have to see her and do labs once a month but my last visit we decided I could go two months before my next visit (September) which was really nice because I live an hour away from there offices. So is there anyone else going through the same stuff on these meds ? Your help would be appreciated. Thank Dennis

The doctors will say forgetfulness is a function of getting old. However, I'm with you, the forgetfulness with AIDS and the meds doesn't seem normal to me. As an example, I'm having trouble remembering plot lines in novels from one chapter to the next. My cognitive difficulties are due partly to liver problems arising from HIV and the meds, which effects mental function and worse makes me constantly tired.
Whatever it is, there is likely little to do about it. Carry an agenda, diary, or PDA, and discipline yourself to write things down you need to remember. As for writing, I leave much more time for editing than I did previously.
Ah to be old and infected, something I didn't believe two decades ago I would face.

It could be the sustiva. How long have you been on it?

Hi I started this new regiment the Sustiva and Kaletra about the second week of June 2005 and had labs done in July after being on it for a month. Everything seemed fine I had good results as far as my lab work but my blood pressure was high and my Doctor wanted me to keep an eye on it. Which I have and it’s still elevated and I have been keeping a chart of it daily. So I now wonder if this could have something to do with the lack of concentration and forgetfulness ? I will try to hold out until my next visit in September. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Scot Charles and thanks for the reply and the suggestions. I guess I'll have to invest in posty notes for the future :) I'm really lucky to have a cool Doctor she stays on top of things so I'm really blessed there. I just wasn't for sure if it could be the medicine since other meds I have been on have never really done this or to the point as these have? My partner of 24 years is Hiv- and it seems when ever he doesn’t have an answer for things he blames it on my age catching up with me I just turned 42 in July and determined to reach old age. Thanks again for the reply. Dennis
