Pancreatitis from HAART

For the last month, I have been battling acute pancreatitis and metastatic hemangiomas brought on by videx, dapsone and norvir in combination. The symptoms are debilitating abdominal pain, fever, and weigh loss. Mine started as a mild stomach ache which over the course of a few weeks escalated to crushing abdominal pain. My pancreas is still inflamed, amylase/lipase elevate, and I have hemangiomas throughout my liver. In addition, the stress on my body caused by the elevated enzymes induced a mild heart attack, which has damaged my heart muscle.
The pain became so severe, I was in hospital for a week on a mg/hr morphine drip. This is nasty stuff, my friends.
I have been on this regimen for only a year and now I have permanent damage from these drugs.

Thanks, I am just about to give up the pain is non-stop, I have a PCP cough again, and the doctor says I may have to go into hospital for a liver recision (to address the metastatic hepatic hemangiomas) with a couple of weeks without nutrition by mouth, supplemented by a 4mg/hr morphine drip. AIDS is a very cruel disease that wears you out before it kills you. This weekend looks to be a winner as I will be zonked out on Vicodin and Prozac. Well at least there is HBO and Showtime.

Listen you little bunhead, I meant to warn people of the dangers of HAART, not to moan about my troubles. These drugs are a nasty business. PI's were rushed into the market without the usual clinical trials. Now we find that all of them cause heart trouble, GI troubles, cancer, wasting, and god knows what else. I have lost many friends to heart attacks brought on by Crixivan and the other PIs. Now research indicates that the virus itself causes heart disease, cancer, and digestive system failure.
I find it hard to believe that someone who has had the virus since 1987 wouldn't know these things. I have been HIV+ since the early 80's and I have seen it all, from denial, to ignorance, to a rush to treatment, and now a misguided belief that we are not sick. You can live in denial as much as you wish, my dear, but you are ill and unlikely to recover.
Acceptance of this disease is a true mark of maturity.

Making deals with god is a bad way to deal with AIDS, my dear. You are setting yourself up for a serious spiritual crisis from which your faith may not recover. Acceptance is the only way, trust me. Acceptance does not mean resignation, nor is it a fatalistic attitude, it is peace.
