What a life
      #14319 - 12/29/00 06:19 PM

I hate having this. As a straight single male(37 yrs. old), meeting women is the hardest thing in the world. And being on disability doesn't help. And all the friends that have deserted me, thinking I'm gay or infectious because of being positive. So, my days are spent alone, and despair gnaws at me. I seem to be healthy(?), but people refer to me as the guy with "AIDS". And all the meds every day. And the 12 inch scar from the splenectomy for ITP. And weighing 109 lbs from 155. But you know what? Life is sweet...and I thank God for every day. I hate the fate I have been resigned to, but I have to make the most of it. I pray everyday that something good will finally happen, and hopefully let me find peace at last.....

ITP in most HIV patients is caused when an antibody to your platelets forms. Macrophages (white blood cells that scavange large invaders) in the spleen take the antibody to be a signal to engulf whatever's attached to it, namely the platelet.

I don't have ITP and have only seen two people with it and one is already dead so I don't do much work in treating it and cannot help you any more than this.

This should be a red flag. AIDS wasting syndrome is one of the most dangerous aspects of AIDS and it is a treatable illness. Please check out http://www.medibolics.com for what you can do about AIDS wasting syndrome.

I take it you have no support groups in you area? I would call and ask around. It is difficult when you have no one to talk this over with. I would call everyone and find the closest support group you can find. Good Luck!

Hey buddy,
Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time dealing with HIV/AIDS. I can't say that I can relate, because my circumstance is very different than yours.....However I do know that most AIDS support organizations have Heterosexual support groups that meet regularly...
Hope you have a better year...and if I can help feel free to write me at: Arizonasky30 @cs.com

There's no reason to waste away! Get to an HIV specialist and get help!!!! Try medical marijuana if you have no appetite or marinol. There is a lot of help for wasting. Just be more active in finding a solution!

"Wasting syndrome" is caused by medications that destroy your metabolism.
