Listen, he has been diagnosed with HIV and is currently taking meds...with all the research and information that is out there today, I ask you, what do you think? Should he be protected and protect people he is with by using condoms or have unprotected sex????????
I think the question is a good one BUT at the same time, you need to use common sense! HIV is a life threatning disease and is transmitted by unprotected sex!!!!!!!
To answer your question.....He should NEVER have unprotected sex and he should also be telling potential lovers that he is positive....NEVER HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX!!!!!!! He can infect someone MOST defin...if he does not wear a condom....Please tell your friend to be safe!!!!!! ~Jessie~

"Jessie" is absoultely correct. Being "undetectable" only means that a person's viral load is low enough that it cannot be detected on a viral load test. That does not mean that the person no longer carries HIV in their blood and body fluids. We just do not have the technology yet to measure the amount of HIV virus in a person's blood any lower than 50 copies per unit of measure (and that's from a tube of blood...multiply that by the 8 pints of blood in a person's body). Until there is a cure, yes, HE MUST WEAR CONDOMS EVERY TIME HE HAS SEX OR HE WILL MOST LIKELY INFECT SOMEONE. There is no "safe" amount of HIV that someone can have in their blood/body fluids as to guarantee their NOT infecting someone.

Being "undetectable" only means that a person's viral load is low enough that it cannot be detected on current viral load tests. However there are experimental tests that can detect it really well. And HIV exists in the semen.
Also although there is LESS of a chance that he can pass it...there is still a pretty good chance.
Some reasons he should not have unprotected sex: He can get other sexually transmitted diseases Undetectable, still means HIV positive. Also undetectable one month does not mean he's undetectable the next month...from test to test he doesn't know if he's going to stay undetectable.

HIV is transmitted easily through unprotected sex. Make sure your partner wears a condom at all times. Feeling good now does not mean it will feel better later.
