48 hours ago i had unprotected sexual intercourse with a woman i believe to have hiv. I came to this conclusion yesterday after a conversation i had with her after fooling around (oral sex only) with her. Last night i was thinking about the possible infection, so i got up and went to the emergency room. The doctor said i was a LOW to maximum of medium risk if she was infected. But i think im at high risk because i forgot to tell him i had shaved my pubic area an hour before the sex. Its already 48 hours later and i started the epivir and retrovir treatment for 3 days as prescribed. The doctor at the emergency room wrote another script for for me for 60 days. He said that i probably have nothing to worry about......but if i had doubts to consult the health department and let them tell me whether or not i should continue the treatment. I have tried to contact the health department and got the "run around". They kept on transfering me over and over. I could not get the info i needed. So now im here as a last resort. With this new information you now have about me, what do you think my risk is at?? After i shaved i did not notice any bleeding when i checked. If i was infected with hiv and continue the treatment.......will it cure me since i caught it early??

from my 17 years of being positive your changes are not too big from my own exerience. But I would continue to play safe and protect yourself. This is not a fun disese trust that. But I would not overwhelm yourslf on worry over oral sex. Get tested again in 3 months and again in 6 and get tested every 6 months afterwords. Oral sex is the safest next to masterbation. I'm only speaking from experience but i've never met anywone who contracted hiv from oral sex only.
Best wishes to you and Be safe my friend..

Yes, you are at a low risk. Semen and blood have the highest concentrations of HIV. Vaginal fluids can have HIV so there is a risk, from what I have read and my dr and former dr indicated, the % being infected by a woman is very low. But unfortunately, SOMEONE has to be in that %, and if you are, you are on top of it by getting medical intervention. But the meds do not CURE HIV, they slow it's progression but one is still infected. Hopefully an actual cure is close, I have hung on for 14 years, so even if you are infected you may be able to live a very long time and NEVER have AIDS itself. So, you are wise to be concerned, but don't panic, you are doing all the right things.
