Hi Jessie:

I went through this with a friend and we found a whole bunch of groups. Here's my list.

There a great group for heterosexual people with HIV that has been meeting for a while. It's called: GUYS AND GIRLS. They have lots of social activities. You need to get on their invitation list. You can call them at (212) 462-9009 or email them at mailto:guysgirls@aol.com

There's another group called:
Positive connections: 888-pos-conn (767-2666)

There's another group run by Body Positive:
Social Fridays -- the first Friday of each month, bringing men and women together. The location is always Manhattan Plaza, 400 West 43rd St. (at 9th Avenue) in the Ellington Room, 2nd Floor. DJ - Dancing - Food ( this is a non-alcohol event). (212) 566-7333

If you register as a client of GMHC, they have support groups for women with HIV and lots of other activities.
One last place is called Friends in Deed
http://www.friendsindeed.org

They have groups every night and it's for people living with life threatening illnesses...so it could be anything. This is an interesting group and they have free workshops as well.

In long island, there is LIACC: http://www.liaac.org/consumers.html#supportgrps

I hope this helps! Remember, New York has lots of HIV positive people, you just need to get out as often as you can and you will find people...even if it's hard at first.

Rebecca

it's really hard and you just have to have patience and keep at it...you will find support and people you feel comfortable with...but it always takes putting up with a lot of uncomfortable crap first...but in the end it's SO worth it! And you seem like you have a lot of energy and spirit. I'm sure you'll be great!

Rebecca

thank u for your input, I have been to most of these and they
arent exactly what I am looking for, I will try the body on the
first of the month one more time, but the couple of times i
attented most of the people were out on a pass from a program and the guys and gals was in the village, small
group and very only 1 or 2 people people of my race.
I will get in touch with gmhc and see if they can help me
with this.
thank you, I would just like to meet more professional men
who are black or spanish. as I am both.
