      #99777 - 06/11/04 09:00 AM

I have some of the symptoms of ars, such as diareah, and possibly thrush all the way from 1 week tafter unprotected vaginal intercourse until now and its been 3 and a half months. Is this commom for ars to last this long. I was tested 30 days after possible exposure and it was negative so im still not possitive of my status

You need to get retested and stop focusing on symptoms. That has been explained over and over on this board. Your nerves areprobably doing it. And it is very unlikely you have thrush, that usually happens in the later stages of AIDS.

So take another test, you'll be glad you did.

Hi friend....
You can stop worrying right now that your "symptoms" are HIV related. ARS doesnt last for months...and you definitely would not be experiencing "symptoms" of this syndrome so long after your exposure. WHat you are experiencing is anxiety and that weird moment when you realize that you are not immortal. It's fear. Fear is a good thing, though, because it can protect you from putting yourself in a compromising situation in the future. Unprotected sex is no joke, and much less for we females. Just because of the make up of our vaginas, we are at higher risk for contracting any kind of STD in unprotected encounters. There is an excellent chance that the guy you were with is HIV negative. And, since the exposure was a one time encounter, you are even at LESS of a risk. However, by no means is a 30 days test conclusive. It sounds as though you are outside of the window period at this point. Why don't you go get a rapid test and get this thing over with in less than an hour? If you don't have that option in your area, go get tested at a local clinic. If you don't want to do that, may I suggest the Home Access test? I used that to test 13 weeks out after a one time unprotected exposure with a person of unknown status (just so you know that I've been there too, girl...and it's scary!). It was great! Very easy to use...anonymous, and you get the results in one week! And, in case you're wondering, I tested negative. THis happened quite awhile ago...and during my window period (when I was a WW from hell), I learned everything that one can learn about this virus. When I got my negative results, I decided that I wanted to help other worried wells, and educate people on the realities of this virus.
So...what I want to say with all this is that you're going to be OK. Get tested, your results should be conclusive at this point (from the timeframe you provided). Learn from this experience. Realize that only you can protect your sexual health. Teach others about the realities of this virus and just never forget this.
Peace, girl. You'll be fine. Keep up posted and let us know when you collect those negative results! It helps every scared soul to see a "I got a BIG FAT NEGATIVE!!!" posted on this board. Ok? Take care, chica.
