Nonreactive vs. Negative?
      #99267 - 05/27/04 12:24 AM

Hi!

I just had an hiv test and it came back nonreactive. Is that the same thing as negative - or does it mean there's a possibility that the infection is present? My last potential exposure was 12 weeks before the test, and I was low risk anyway.

An answer is greatly appreciated!

nonrecative is negative. that's the whole way the test works. if it reacted then other tests would be done.

Thats right you are negetive my firend.
The test is performed by adding the HIV virus to your blood, if your blood reacts it is beacause your blood has antibodies in it. If the result is non-reactive this means there were no antibodies present most likely because HIV has never been introduced to your blood before. So non reactive is the result we all want.
