Testing four years after possible exposure
      #98610 - 05/11/04 07:20 PM

I am a female who had unprotected sex with a man who I was later told was HIV + (but not by him). I went to Planned Parenthood in MA four years later and took a test, it came back negative, but just to be sure I took a home access three months after that. It has been a year since I had those test done and I still can't shake the feeling that I had a false negative because I waited too long to get tested. Should I test again or should I just come to the reality that I am HIV negative.

Hi, i suggest you read Dr. Bob's forum at thebody that discusses that a test at 3 months is 99.9% correct. At four years it is undeniably correct. Relax, you are safe. Perhaps its the guilt of having unprotected sex that is still causing you guilt.. God bless u.
