      #90804 - 02/28/04 09:03 PM

I had sex with a person of unknown status and a week or two later had bad night sweats for two nights straight, can this be ARS and if so how long after ARS symptoms would it be before a test would show positive? Please help. I getting tested on Monday, thanks

Dear Anon:

You need to provide more information.

Was the sex act protected? If not, then what was the sex act? How long ago was this exposure?

Night sweats, and symptoms in general are never a reliable way to determine your HIV status.

“how long after ARS symptoms would it be before a test would show positive?”

Forget ARS, the vast majority of folks will seroconvert with 4 to 6 weeks, with the average being 26 days.

I suggest that you supply some additional information for us to evaluate.

Cheers

Jazz

No fever? No fatigue? No rash?
If it makes you feel better, I have awoken at times sweating with my sheets wet and it turned out to be nothing. Try to relax and get tested. Then, when you get your negative result, always use protection unless you really know the partner.
Good luck!

thanks I plan to get tested after the first four weeks and then again at my annual check up which will be around nine weeks and one final test at thirteen to fourteen weeks, provided all the previous tests are negative.
