Spoke to someone on the UK AIDS National Helpline about possible risk from pre-ejaculate. She gave me some figures from a study which involved 24 mixed-status couples who practised unprotected sex with withdrawal before ejaculation over a 12 month period. Apparently none of the -ve parteners became infected during this time.

What was their viral load. That is the most important part in an infected person who engages in a sexual act. If the partners had undetectable viral load, the probability of infection is far less lets say of someone who has a detectable viral load. The answer which was given to you is not good enough. Precum is more infectious than semen and usually has higher concentration of viral load because it has more protein and more salt in it than semen. Saliva has less concentration because it has less protein and salt in it
