What does Low Risk/High Risk mean? I mean, how many low risk people turn positive? Obviously, high risk people have a better chance of testing positive, but does low risk mean that the risk is virtually none? Thanx.

The words are pretty self explanatory. High risk activity, like receiving vaginal or anal sex, means that you are more at risk than a low risk activity such as receiving oral sex. There are no statistics. Just think about what needs to happen to contract HIV. 1. you need an HIV+ partner 2. There needs to be an infective amount of HIV virus in the contacted body fluid that is capable of causing infection; and 3. The HIV virus needs direct contact with your blood. By keeping this in mind you can assess your risk. At any rate, a single risky sexual exposure puts the odds in your favor. Be more careful in the future. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Let me explain it this way. I have heard oral sex described as both low risk and high risk. Outside of this, the only other forms of high risk sex have been unprotected anal sex, vaginal sex, and injection drug use. Oral sex is the only sex described as "low-risk" that has been documented to transmit HIV. All other forms, including fingering, kissing, etc, has never been found to transmit HIV. I firmly believe that the only reason why people do not describe these activities as "no risk" is because there is a THEORETICAL chance of transmission from these activities. Could you imagine what would happen if these professionals put their butts on the line, calling it "no risk", and actually having these activities once, just once, transmitting HIV. It will not happen, but it would cause QUITE a commotion. In other words, until you read about one of these activities speading HIV, DO NOT worry about it!!
