Deeply troubled
      #79348 - 12/20/03 01:01 PM

Thanks for your attention in advance...
Regretfully, I ordered myself a hooker to my hotel room while on a business trip to South America.
She performed UNprotected oral sex (about 6-8 minutes)and then we had PRotected vaginal sex. Afterwards I removed the condom and she finished me off with a hand job. After she left I took the condom I performed the "highly scientific" fill it w/ water gig to see if there were any leaks/tears and there weren't any.
Exactly 30 days after the encounter I developed a fever that fluctuated from 100 to 102.5 (lasted almost 3 days), a sore throat (4 days and primarily the 'left' side), mild lymph node swelling (according to the doc.), headache (more of a discomfort than pain), and phlegm build-up in my throat area - though none in my nose area. No rash.
I didn't tell the doctor about my hooker encounter. The doctor suspects I have a bacterial - not a viral - infection and got me started on antibiotics. Tested negative for strep. but still feels it's bacterial.
After 4 days ailing I'm feeling a bit better other than my throat.
The questions:
The encounter itself - what are the odds?
Is sputum (Phlegm grey/pink)a characteristic of ARS?
Would ARS last only 4-5 days?
The doc suggested my condition is bacterial, ARS would show viral signs - can the doc really tell that from a simple throat culture?
Thank you so much and sorry for being lengthy. The events, timelines and symptoms are frighteningly associated w/ contracting HIV and I'm a total disaster right now.

Even though you did some incredidibly stupid and had sex with a hooker, you were smart and used a condom. HIV is not spread through latex condoms. Your illness is probably not related to ARS at all. it is cold and flu season remember alot of people are sick.

If you are that worried and cannot stop worrying then take an HIV test but the odds are you are negative.

Stay away from hookers! Especially ones outside the US.
