Elbow Nodes
      #78844 - 11/29/03 08:47 AM

I'm about as scared of posting this as I am of the disease I'm afraid I've got - but here goes nothing. Had a risky encounter about 33 weeks ago. Thought I was in the clear then after 8 weeks, my lymph nodes behind and under my jaw became swollen - lasted 10 days then receeded. A few other symptoms came and went over the next few months (white dry skin flaking off my hands, a coated tongue that lasted a few days, etc). Then, after 28 weeks, the nodes behind and under my jaw swelled up again. I was hoping that this was tied to some allergies that I seem to be fighting here but this time, thanks to all the research I've done, I knew to check my elbows as well and sure enough, found my elbow nodes. Though they seem to be less than 1cm in size - I'm devistated because I read that I shouldn't be able to feel these at all and that HIV was the most common cause for this. All the nodes that were swollen (behind and under jaw) are still "palpable" - but all under 1cm in size and seem to be going down. No other symptoms to speak of (fever, night sweats, etc) But the elbow nodes that I can feel have done me in. So now, unless someone out there can help mitigate this incredible fear - I'm afraid to go home (I'm currently deployed with the military), scarred to see a doctor, scarred to see my family, and almost feel like it would be better not to go home at all. Can anyone out there give any comfort at all? Can I place any hope in the fact that my first symptom was a full 8 weeks or more post exposure? Anything will help!

Have you tested yet?
Did you test at 12 or 14 weeks?
Have you been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

If you tested at 14 weeks negative then you are obsessing over nothing, it is allergy related probably which is the other reason those nodes will enlarge along with temperature changes causing the joints to have a pressure change and cause the same.
Remember, this is not some disease that lies and waits for a good time to come get you, it is a active disease and even a compromised immune system has no effect on slowing the replication and infection.

Thanks G-man, I appreciate your quick response. No. Haven't been tested since Feb. I'm currently deployed with the military - have been since March - and I'm not in a situation where I can get a test until I come home - which is very soon (adding to my axiety!) Obsessive compulsive? God I hope that's all it is!

Thanks again!
