SCARED, VERY SCARED
      #78781 - 11/27/03 08:57 AM

Lately, I've been noticing that my lips are very dry and even blistering and cracking at the corners. I've always had dry lips and been a lip biter, teeth grinder/clencher and wear alot of lipstick. I was researching this on the internet and came across "angular chelitis" which may be a symptom of HIV. My only risk is oral sex that I performed almost 11 years ago.. I've always worried about HIV and it seems that now Im actually having a symptom. Im afraid to get tested. I went to the doctor about my lips and he just said it could be an irritation from the lipstick or something mechanical like biting the lips and licking them. Im very scared that it could be HIV related instead, the condition is going away but im afraid that Im going to get worse symptoms in the future, Im going crazy...Has anyone else had this as a symptom?

Simple answer is get tested.

From what you have said I dont believe you have anything to worry about. Stop reading up on the symptoms and leave it at that. Looking at symptoms will only make you paranoid you have them. I would say you are Ok but to put your mind at rest get tested.

Dry cracked lips is not a symptom of ARS or HIV I wouldnt worry about it just get some medicine for it.

Dear Scared,

Make an appointment with your physician and let him/her know of your symptoms; B vitamin deficiencies can cause the syndromes you are describing here; cracking of the lips and so forth.

Karen :)
