Hi, I have noticed a whitish coat over my entire tongue for the past week. I've been reading up on thrush and its typically described as milkish/curdish white patches. I don't have these typical patches any other patches in the mouth, just an even white coat. Are there any other oral infections besides thrush that present this way? Also, does anyone know how common thrush is in an HIV- person. I am very worried that I might have HIV and I am trying to summon the courage to go for a test. Other weird symptoms I have been having over the past two weeks are; sore throat, non-productive cough, sore glands (in the neck), headaches. Everything has been pretty mild, but persistent. So it feels like a have a mild cold but usually when I get a cold, its more severe and lasts a few days. Should I be worried? I'm obsessing about every symptom, especially the thrush. I could write the others off, but it seems to me that the thrush is pretty damning. I would appreciate any advice about my symptom presentation. Plus, has anyone had thrush and not tested positive?

Hey, dont be concerned because thrush is not a white coating over the entire tongue. Check out this web page because it will show you actual pictures of thrush. Yes, people who are HIV negative can experience thrush. Babies get it quite regularly as well as people who take antibiotics or sometimes it happens for no reason at all. Hope this helps

To begin with, it sounds like you are worried about something you don't have. A white coating on the tounge is common. You've probably had it before and never noticed it. Quite sometime ago I happened to check my own tounge after yet another poster had talked about this white coating. Guess what. I have it too. Probably always did, I just never bothered to stick my tounge out and have a look.
Thrush is something that has to be diganosised by a doctor and it can only be cleared up by medication. It's caused by an overgrowth of candida (yeast). Yes, it looks somewhat like cottage cheese.
Symptoms are never a way to figure out your status. You can either get a test and get this issue out of the way or you can not test and continue to worry about it.
