Is low blood glucose ARS?
      #77443 - 10/31/03 09:30 PM

I could have been exposed to HIV about 1 1/2 months ago, although the risk was apparently very, very low. I have not had any big, significant "symptoms" of ARS other than a one-day cold, and strong headache at week #4. Later, at week #6 (this week), I had another headache that lasted a day and a half with minor fever, no cold, nothing else. I found those headaches weird, so I went to a lab to have my blood tested for cholesterol, glucose, and other regular tests. When I got my test results this afternoon, all was OK, except my glucose level which was 53.7 mg% when normal values are 70-110 mg%. I am extremely alarmed and nervous, and I am trying to determine whether this low blood glucose is related to ARS or not. I am also extremely anxious and stressed, and that could be the cause, too. That's all I feel now: super nervous and stressed, with lots of fears and doubts. I know I have to wait until 3-6 months for an HIV test, but, in the meantime, are these "symptoms" I've mentioned convincing ARS symptoms, or should I start thinking about meeting with a psychiatrist? Please HELP!

A single test like that could just mean you didn't eat before your test was done.

Low blood sugar is an indication of Hypoglycemia. It's diagnosised with an 6 hour test where you drink a sweet solution and then they draw blood at intervals in order to track what happens to your blood sugar. If your doctor didn't order this, then I doubt he's very concerned about it. It has nothing to do with HIV or ARS.

None of your other symptoms point to ARS either. Since you have 6 weeks under your belt you could test and get a very good indicator right now of your status.

Most people seroconvert by 6 weeks. A 6 week negative is a very good indication that your 13 week conclusive test will also be negative.
