Worried, please respond with opinions. Thanks

Hello everybody, thanks for taking the time to check out my forum. I am worried about my health because I happened to have a fingering encounter with chaped hands. There was also very little "nicks" in my hand that were pretty much healed. A small cut that was almost fully scabbed as well. There's a chance a small amount of her vaginal secretions came into contact with them. Weeks later I experienced symptoms such as fever, mild sore throat, diarrhea, swelling in groin. I hope this is due to stress. But then I read about an article where a health care worker with chapped hands came was exposed to HIV infected blood at work, and he himself became infected. Is it then possible to become infected with chapped hands and exposure to a small amount of vaginal fluids? Also there were instances where healthcare workers became infected when infected blood from patients splashed onto mucuous membranes such as mouth, eye, inside of nose. Is it dangerous to get other fluids such as semen or vaginal secretions splashed onto these orifices as well? A representative at the CDC HOTLINE told me that HIV is not trasmitted this way and I should only worry if I engage in unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Is this true, and why is it that those three are the most dangerous, when you can come into contact with semen/vaginal fluids during mutual masturbation as well. Is it safe to let this go and blame my symptoms on stress or the fever on minor cold? With all these symptoms should I still not worry about the chance of having contracted HIV? Thank you and please reply.

HIV needs an airtight transmission, ie unprotected sex, in order to transmit. The healthcare worker you read about came into contact with someone's blood that was in the final stages of AIDS and it was quite a bit of it.

In order for you to have been at risk, you would have had to have fresh, deep, and openly bleeding cuts on your hands. Nicks and papercuts do not provide enough access to your bloodstream to transmit.

So no, you shouldn't be worried about HIV. Your experience simply did not put you at risk.
