Testing while ARS present?
      #65532 - 06/11/03 08:56 PM

Is it more likely that someone would test positive while experiencing ARS symptoms even though a relatively short time has passed since exposure. (like 1 month) ?

The ELISA test is designed to be used after ARS.

ARS is the inital reaction of the body to the virus. In this phase the body is developing antibodies to fight the virus. During ARS there are not enough antibodies yet developed to be picked up on an ELISA.

However, if a person is truly going through ARS, then their viral load would be very high. PCR RNA's can be used during this time period to determine if a person has a viral load.
