What are the differences between HIV-1, HIV-2 and HTLV. I have done a bit of traveling (Mostly US, Europe & ASIA) and wanted to find information. Does the common Elisa test for all 3?

The ELISA tests for HIV 1, but can also pick up HIV 2 in most cases. The only time a person really might need the seperate test for HIV 2 is if they were at high risk by visiting South Africa or having an exposure to someone from there.

HTLV doesn't have anything to do with HIV so it wouldn't ever be picked up on a test. Actually I think that was the term used for HIV back in the late 80's when they thought the virus was a part of that family, before they found it was a new virus.
