Neg at 8.5 wks but low "normal" white blood count
      #64832 - 05/13/03 03:01 AM

Hi guys,
To cut a long story short: partner recently tested positive. I tested negative on a rapid hospital test where they drew blood and this was at the 8.5 wk mark since my last exposure via unprotected insertive anal intercouse. However, I have had a sore throat since about the 3.5 week mark but have worried myself sick ever since my partner tested poz and have scoured the web for symptoms of HIV. My doc seems to think my illness could be stress related. Just wondered what my chances are at 8.5 wks? Also had a CBC done which has only confirmed my fears since it shows a white blood cell count of 4.5 (rng 4.0-10.0), which while normal looks on the low side ...

I can understand your fear, however if you were having ARS your white blood count would be high not low because at this point your body would be reacting to the virus and what happens when our bodies react to viruses? Our white blood count goes up. Hope this helps and hang in there. I'm sorry for your partner.

Unlikely that you have HIV. Get a test at 12 weeks to be certain. ARS doesn't "hang around"
