Hey everyone, I stumbled upon this board, and I had a few questions. I know this has been answered many times before, but I want to know what my risks of contracting HIV are if I received oral sex with a condom on. When talking to someone at the CDC HIV hotline, I was told that it is almost statistically impossible. Also, what if I gave oral sex to someone with a condom on? What are the risks there? Finally, a question about HPV/genital warts. There was a small amount of fondling involved in my recent experience. Am I at significant risk of catching HPV? I had the condom on from the start, so I assume that my penis was protected. However, I am concerned about my scrotum area. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks folks.

No chance for HIV for sure! But it's hard to say about HPV. Herpes is transmitted via contact with herpes lesions, and it can infect intact skin. So, if your scrotum contacted and lesions of your partner, you could get infected. But at the same time, if you didn't notice any lesions on your partner, then I don't think you would get infected. Either way, HIV is definitely the bigger concern here, and you are safe from that!

Thanks, BDG. I did not see any lesions on the other person, and there was a lot of handwashing with soap and water. I felt that I was pretty safe in the way I handled things. I just needed reassurance, that's all.

BDG, another question for you. what if a partner touched his/genital areas, and then yours? What are the relative risks of contracting genital warts through such secondary contact, as opposed through actual genital contact? Also, in my case this was a one-time experience, not something done every weekend.

I have to admit that I haven't done much reading on any other STDs except for HIV, but from what I have read about genital warts, what you mentioned wouldn't be much risk. The risk is from the fluid that is within these warts. If there was a significant amount on your partner's hand, there could be some risk. But then again, I think you'll know if you get infected with the warts, so you can get them treated!
