Hi, I took a Urine Test for HIV at 8 months. First off, how accurate is a urine test for HIV and by the way, I tested negative for antibodies. Is this a good sign?

Yes, there has been a Urine test for HIV since 1996. Its produced by a company name calptye or something like that. Most insurance companies test for HIV through a Urine Sample now. Like all major infections - antibodies are produced and can also be detected in urine. However I do not know if they are as accurate as a blood test. Note that the Urine test is also an Elisa Test and can be subjected to a Western Blot for confirmation. However I also did read somewhere on this message board that at 25 days an antibody test is 95% accurate and a 3 months it is 98% accurate. The reason why CDC reccomends 3 months is so the other 3% of people who take longer to produce antibodies will not be missed. 6 months is for very rare cases. Any comments on what I have said?
