The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center is now offering rapid HIV antibody testing. They are using the FDA approved kit that has proven to be as accurate as traditional ELISA tests. The results are ready within an hour. Testing is free, usually available on a walk-in basis, and comes with great counseling. If you are in the LA area and can't handle the wait for results, head to the Gay and Lesbian Center.
This test is becoming increasingly available in other cities, so call your local clinic and ask about it.

That's great that they are offering the rapid test. I heard the same thing about accuracy being close to the ELISA's.
One thing scares the hell out of me about rapid testing though! Where's the confirmatory test? ELISA's can cause false positives, and I believe the rapid tests can cause them too. I think if you test positive, you would have to get confirmed through some other method (WB or IFA), and I don't think it would be available right on premises. So you might have to wait a week or two to confirm. That would be pretty scary!
What do you think VOICE? And by the way, are they using the SUDS test as a rapid test? I think they would be.
