an abnormal pap smear is not an indication of HIV. if you want to know if you do or do not have HIV then you take a eliza test for HIV not a pap. paps will show abnormal cells for a variety of reasons that may or may not amount to anything. if a pap is abnormal then you usually take a second one and if that one is also abnormal then the gyno does a biopsy. abnormal paps can also show hpv (gential warts - human pamplomla virus and which one, there are many strains) or abnormal paps can also be that you had your pap too soon or right after your period. the cells are always changing and the best time to get a pap is midcycle. pap smears look for cervical cancer as well. i had an abnormal pap smear then i had a biopsy and then after 3 normal paps each 6 months apart, i was able to go back to once a yr paps. i had nothing - dr doesn't know why the first pap was abnormal - and it never happened again. so ........... no, pap smears do not show or test for hiv.
